We can all be honest and admit that hair removal can get to be an annoying chore. Whether you shave at home, visit your favorite wax girl, get sugared or have taken the plunge on laser…it can all be a lot. Between spending money on shaving cream and razors, making appointments to feel warm wax on your lady bits or deal with ingrown hairs; it can all be a hassle and intimidating.
If you are all for growing body hair, then more power to you. I know way too many of us have been conditioned to get rid of it and it is something we can’t stop doing. Others like myself simply love the feeling of not having body hair in certain areas. It all goes beyond what society says, it is how it makes us feel. Body hair or not, I love that we can all make the personal decision to keep it or remove it.
After years of shaving at home and trying different products like Nair, or wax kits, I tried waxing and sugaring. Let me say that at times I feel like I can pop out another baby instead of getting my lady bits waxed. Ouch, just Ouch. Is this really necessary? I thought to myself as I find my body in all fours again making conversation with my wax girl. If you have never gotten waxed, go for it, do it at least once. Get it done and tell me how you enjoyed it. The sudden pull/pain is something alright.
But anyway, I gave up and thought trying laser hair removal would be the next step into having hair-free skin.
So, I did my research and carefully thought about the pros and cons. I came upon Laseraway (this is not an Ad), filled one of their surveys on the service I was looking into and less than 24 hours later I received a call. They were amazing, gathered the information needed and told me one of their nurses would be calling me to video chat about my health before making my appointment. The video call went great and they were transparent about the procedure. Booking the appointment was a breeze and I was scheduled to go in for laser hair removal.
What was my actual appointment like? A breeze! Zero regrets!
Let me say that the area I was getting laser on were my arm pits. I know, I know, it is a small area however I have scarring on one of my underarms which makes it difficult to shave/wax and is prone to get ingrown hairs; that is why I wanted to try laser. Walking into the room, I was given instructions to change into a robe or choosing to stay with my bra on (since it’s my underarms). Once the clinician came back in the room, I wore protective eye wear and was made aware of how the laser would feel and the cooling effect attached to the laser which helps the procedure be painless. The pain depends on hair density, in my opinion it did not hurt like I thought it would. The procedure was less than 10 minutes and the prickling sensation was minimal which I loved because I truly don’t enjoy pain haha
After those 5-10 minutes, I was done and given aloe vera gel to soothe the area. The after-care instructions include avoiding direct heat and sweat. They also tell you to avoid swimming, really hot showers, scrubbing and avoid other methods of hair removal. I was able to book my next appointment right after which are scheduled 6 weeks apart. For this specific treatment I would need 6-8 appointments to fully target the area.
I had no issues after my 1st treatment, I followed all care instructions and this has been the case for all following treatment appointments. A couple days after my 1st treatment I could already notice the difference. Smoother underarms, softer and thinner hair and simple underarm bliss. I absolutely loved it.
So, how does the laser work? According to the information shared by Laseraway, “Laser hair removal uses fast laser light pulses to selectively destroy hair follicles by targeting their melanin (color). The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the laser’s light pulse, which damages the follicle enough to significantly slow hair regrowth”.
If you have been thinking about a laser treatment for hair removal, I definitely believe that doing your own research and understanding the pros and cons is helpful in making your decision.
If you use ‘Laseraway’, they do offer different seasonal discounts (which I used for my treatment) and also offer payment plans. Laseraway also has other treatments available to include body contouring, Thermage, cool sculpting, tattoo removals, injectable and more.
